Speculative post on the new iPhone 5S after the launch of said phone but before I have seen it

I fear there is a problem with the internet.  This problem is that some people are getting paid.  I’m not getting paid for my opinions or to have an opinion.  Other people are and so sometimes what they say seems a bit suspect.  Or rather I warn you that a lot of what you read online is bullshit, much like what you see on telly.

Before the new iPhone 5S was announced it was a little amusing to hear people discuss things they didn’t know about or only suspected about.  And then after the announcement, there was further discussion about the phone, generally by people who didn’t actually have access to the phone or any reliable sources of information. More rings! More emotions! Fight the Third Army with more lantern power! Green Lantern Rise of the Third Army

Perhaps you are familiar with the Green Lantern and the Green Lantern Corps. Perhaps you know about the Guardians and the power rings. If not, then this is a super hero graphic novel review that is probably not for your eyes.

The universe is under attack by mysterious invaders that subsume all life it encounters.  They can even convert the powerful (Green) Lanterns … if the ring is removed.  However will the good guys save the day?  With the help of new friends and new power ups and a little ass kicking courtesy of Guy Gardner.  Sorry if that’s a spoiler. Warming up to Warm Bodies

At the beginning of the year when I was compiling my list of the top films of 2013 — really all of the 2013 films I’ve seen* I put Warm Bodies at the bottom of the list.  As time has gone by, I didn’t quite remember why I ranked Warm Bodies so lowly and so I just re-watched the film to see if it actually merited being ranked below Planes and The Lone Ranger.

Maybe. Continue reading “Warming up to Warm Bodies”

Testicles and Blow Job Bribes – We’re the Millers

I saw We’re the Millers today.  I laughed.  I’m ranking it at 20 out of the 30 films I’ve seen this year.  Hopefully a graphically swollen testicle prothesis makes you laugh.  And convincing a young man to try and bribe somebody with a blow job…The writing wasn’t great.  Maybe it’ll be on Netflix streaming and you can enjoy this bit of comedy.

Mighty No. 9! The latest kickstarter project … now with more support!

Mega Man. He’s a classic video game character. He’s the robot that blasts his way through scores of enemy robots.  But … this isn’t a post about Mega Man.  It’s a post about Mighty No. 9, the new upcoming game from the team behind Mega Man.

When I first heard about this project I knew I wanted to support it.  I’m not great at this kind of game.  But I like to encourage the development of this sort of nonsense.  And $5 wouldn’t give me a copy of the game which was ok, because it was only being developed for PC.  Well it seems like I wasn’t alone in my support for this project because not only has the $900k goal been achieved fairly quickly, but the kickstarter stretch goal for Mac/Linux support has been passed.  And now I’ve gone back to kickstarter and increased my pledge to $20 so I will have a chance to play the game when it comes out…in 2015.

Planes: Needs More Mater. What’s the point of being in the World of Cars without Mater?

Super hot?  Go see a movie!  Today’s film … Planes.  A computer animated film that had been planned as a direct to video movie from the  DisneyToon Studios…released into theatres.  It wasn’t bad.  It wasn’t awful.  But I can’t exactly recommend it.
